I’ve been combining my daily walks with taking photos for my House Numbers set on Flickr. I’ve been taking these photos for several years now but the jar walks have encouraged me to take more of them. I’m sure I must look a bit dodgy taking photos of people’s front gates and doors but there’s such a wonderful variety of forms, materials, colours, textures and shapes in something as simple as house numbers.

These house number images are available for free use under a Creative Commons license. If you’d like to know more about Creative Commons, I wrote a simple explanation on my main blog yesterday.

Jar No 7 found

Number on lid of jar*: 7

I’ve seen or collected a jar*: Collected a jar

Your name (optional): Mark

Date jar found (optional): 08 January 2011

If you collected a jar, what motivated you to pick it up? (optional): It’s a beautifully quirky and presentable piece of art in itself, and I love the idea of hidden treasures in everyday locations. Plus I felt excited to have been the one to find it, and I wanted to show it off to friends who have similar interests!

Where is the jar now? (optional): On my desk, serving as a fantastic talking point. I’m thinking of hiding it again, somewhere in Clifton – I’d love to track “my” jar as it changes between people’s hands.

Kirsty’s comments:
Ooh, a second jar has been found – well spotted, Mark! I’ve started adding a little ‘if you want this, take it’ type comment to the lids to encourage people, plus I’ve been putting them in slightly more obvious places. It seems to be working.

I’m intrigued that both people who’ve found the jars so far are thinking of repositioning them, I hadn’t expected that.
